The Global Women’s Project Steering Committee met in Minneapolis September 7-8. The exciting focus of the meeting was welcoming and orienting new member Tina Rieman, of El Cerrito, CA (in the Bay Area). Tina joins Kim Hill Smith (Minneapolis, MN), Anna Lisa Gross (Minneapolis, MN) and Emily Matteson (Modesto and La Verne, CA). Emily, a Scripps College student, is spending a semester in Chile, learning more about international women’s stories first-hand. We celebrated the service of member Carrie Eikler (Morgantown, WV) who has finished her time on the steering committee. Carrie’s legacy includes creating the Children’s Giving Project (check it out for fall Sunday school classes!) and other creative, visionary energy, as well as commitment to the ongoing details of carrying the work of GWP.

We shared updates from our project partners: Sister Stella’s work with girls in Uganda, Roshni’s work with women’s job-skill sharing in Nepal, Esperance’s work with community cooperative farming in Rwanda, Kay’s work with women leaving jail in Indiana, and Gladys’ work with sewing cooperatives in Southern Sudan. These sisters continue to thrive in their work, despite political and economic challenges. We pray for their wellbeing and passion.

Global Women’s Project appreciated connecting with members of the Common Spirit and Open Circle Churches of the Brethren while in the Twin Cities.
