Hello Friends of GWP,

Happy Last Day of April! I’m on the train into Chicago, enjoying the slow transition into my work day. Today, I’m listening to “April 8, 2024:The Great North American Eclipse” by Sleeping at Last. It makes me want to look out the window and take in every new bud on the trees I pass. Is there a piece of music that helps you remember to stop and take in Spring?

The GWP Steering Committee met this month for our virtual Spring Retreat. It was a productive meeting full of project updates, brainstorming, and planning. We look forward to sharing these project updates with you bit by bit over the coming months in our Global E-Links messages.

We are extending our annual Mother’s Day fundraiser into all of May! Instead of buying more stuff for a special woman in your life, express gratitude with a gift that keeps on giving. Make a donation by the end of May to fund women-led projects that improve women’s health, education, and livelihood. In return, your chosen recipient(s) will receive a lovely, hand-written card indicating that a gift has been made in their honor.

To participate, donate online or mail a check along with your name and recipient’s name and address to:

I’d like to close by giving you a small update on my project, the Chiapas Women’s Health Collective. As you will likely remember from our print newsletter that went out recently, our main contact and leader of the collective, Elena, has been dealing with breast cancer. I’m pleased to report that she recently got back in touch with me to provide further updates. While she is still dealing with health problems, Elena has recruited more people to help with the running of the initiative. They have expanded into new territories in the region and are now offering even more workshops to teach holistic healing with an emphasis on herbal medicine, acupuncture, and access to mental health therapy. The monetary need for this project continues to grow as they add more services aiding women in the rural regions of Chiapas. Elena has asked that we send any leads on other international partners or grants to help meet their funding needs. If any of our GWP Friends have any ideas or suggestions, please let us know by responding to this email.
